Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling for times of change, loss, uncertainty, and feeling stuck in life.

When life feels hard, confusing, or not how you expected…

Sometimes we reach a point where things just feel too much to carry on our own.

You might feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or unsure about where your life is going. You might be dealing with loss, a relationship change, or a big life shift.

Counselling can offer a space where you don’t have to face these things alone - a supportive place where you can talk openly, make sense of what you’re going through, and begin to find your way forward.

Welcome

Hello, I’m Anna Shears, a fully qualified, BACP registered Psychotherapist.

I work with adults and young people who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or going through difficult life changes, offering a safe and supportive space where they can talk openly and begin to make sense of what they’re experiencing.

I offer a confidential and welcoming space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings safely.

Together we will gently explore your experiences, helping you understand yourself more deeply and make sense of what you’re going through.

Through this process you can begin to develop ways of coping with difficult emotions, gain clarity about what matters to you, and build the confidence to make changes in your life if you want to.

If this sounds like the kind of support you’re looking for, you’re welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial conversation.

What’s brought you here today?

Perhaps:

  • You're feeling anxious or emotionally overwhelmed

  • You’re grieving someone you’ve lost, or a life that has changed

  • A relationship has shifted or ended

  • Your confidence has taken a knock and you're doubting yourself

  • You feel stuck or uncertain about where your life is heading

  • You carry a lot for others but rarely have space for yourself

  • You simply want somewhere to talk honestly without judgement

Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to face it alone.

How counselling can help:

Counselling offers a confidential space where you can slow down and explore your thoughts and feelings safely.

Together we can:

  • Make sense of difficult emotions

  • Explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck

  • Understand yourself more deeply

  • Reconnect with your needs, values and voice

  • Find ways of moving forward that feel right for you

Therapy isn’t about being fixed or given advice.

Instead, it’s about having a thoughtful and compassionate space where you can begin to understand yourself more clearly and find your own way forward.

What it’s like working with me

When you come to counselling with me, the most important thing is that you feel safe, listened to, and accepted just as you are.

Our sessions are a space where you can talk openly about whatever is on your mind. You don’t need to have the right words or even know where to begin. We can start wherever feels comfortable for you.

I won’t judge you, tell you what you should do, or try to “fix” you. Instead, I will listen carefully and support you while you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Some sessions might involve talking about things that are happening in your life right now. Other times we might look at past experiences or patterns that help make sense of how you’re feeling.

Over time, this process can help you understand yourself more clearly, find healthier ways of coping with difficult emotions, and feel more confident about the choices you make.

Counselling moves at your pace, and you always remain in control of what you choose to share.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am,

then I can change.”

— Dr. Carl Rogers, 'On Becoming a Person'

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Person-centred counselling is an empathetic, supportive form of therapy that focuses entirely on you as an individual – your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

But what truly makes it effective is the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. The heart of this approach is creating a space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. It's through this safe, trusting connection that healing and personal growth can take place.

  • Sessions are a space for you to speak freely, and be met with care. You don’t need to have it all figured out — we start wherever you are.

While I won’t direct or analyse you, I do bring experience, attentiveness, and gentle curiosity to help us explore what’s going on beneath the surface. I’ll listen closely, reflect thoughtfully, and support you to make sense of what matters to you.

It’s not about fixing — it’s about understanding, together.

Each session is 50 minutes long and depending on your needs, I offer both focused short-term work and longer ongoing work.

  • There’s no set number — it depends on what you’d like to explore. Some people come for a short period of support; others choose to work together over a longer time. If you’d like to discuss this, please feel free to get in touch: anna@annashearscounselling.com
